Progress Update 1

For the Visual Narrative Project, I have been considering a variety of different possibilities. Something that I have recently been inspired by are the books that I have been reading recently. I originally considered doing something related to the narratives within my favorite stories but decided it would not be well suited for this project.

Then I began thinking of motion and the ways to convey motion and I was reminded of Alice In Wonderland. In particular, the concept of falling "down the rabbit hole." I think there is something so fascinating about dreams and this idea of falling. I think it might be interesting in this project to explore a new understanding of "down the rabbit hole" and what could exist within a modern version of a Wonderland-like world. I might also consider how I could show falling in a non-traditional way?

I think to start with this project, I'll focus on the hole itself. The idea of down the rabbit hole immediately sparks the image of a road tunnel and. I think I could explore using an image of that to create the walls and shapes of my tunnel. As for what exists at the end of the tunnel, I think to break from the traditional understanding of a Wonderland, I could explore something more futuristic and modern. Rather than a tunnel to a fantasy land, its a tunnel toward the future. I think this could be an interesting concept to explore further and how the ways in which the future, can be viewed as a downward spiral.

So far, I have begun searching for images both to use and for inspiration. As I look at tunnels, I find myself drawn to the cool tones, like the cyan blues of the lighting. I think it would be cool to play upon the idea of the future as represented through the cool neon tones and potentially even contrast that with warmer tones at the entrance of the tunnel that may evoke a more past or historical feeling. Maybe even exploring a transition from a classical idea of a rabbit hole with the earth ground the natural elements to the metal and neon lights of a contemporary tunnel.

As I explore this idea further, I think I'll begin to develop a more concrete idea and vision for what this project could look like.

  1. Cool idea, going into the future as opposed to fantasy. I'm interested to see your progress in this project. Is this world at the end of the tunnel going to be a dream or the true future?

  2. Camdyn, loving how far you've already come with the progression of your concept! You've got a really nice plan and so many rich ideas to incorporate. I think the cyan blues give off that futuristic vibe you're looking for. Looking at your images, I'm thinking about some of the big stone tunnels on the parkway that you drive under. And then going back to Alice in Wonderland, it'd be cool to see a walking path tunnel thing with overgrown nature or something. I dunno, just a thought. :) keep up the good work! - Julia

  3. Hey Camdyn, I really like your idea! I think that your choice of color scheme is definitely going to help with the futuristic vibes (for lack of better words) that you're looking for. And I like how you're thinking about combining the classic rabbit hole with a "newer version".

  4. This idea has lots of elements of visual motion that make for an exciting piece. I'm looking forward to see how you translate these ideas, and already imagine some iterations pushing this feeling of falling, just through the images you've provided.
