In terms of how to combine the train and the mixer, I have considered a few ideas so far. My initial idea, which came from the shape of the mixer was to treat the top of the mixer as the front car of a train and build additional cars behind it with a more monorail track design going pass the stand mixer shape. Another option was to have the stand mixer sit on a more traditional railroad track, which is more recognizable, and build more of a train with the entirety of the mixer. This could also provide the opportunity to incorporate the part of the mixer that does the mixing, or the whisk part, to mimic the wheels of the train or something that propels it the mixer forward.
As I was playing around with that idea, I began to return to the initial idea of the mixer and what it does. I thought a different route to go would be to leave the whisk where it already exists within the bowl but still demonstrate it as a point of movement. Then I came up with the idea of having the railroad being mixed in the bowl. I think this helped create a much more dynamic image as well as one that is more fantasied. With this idea, I also played around with darkening the background more to create more separation between the tracks and the background.
Some other ideas I want to play around with are lifting the mixer off of the ground and giving it more of a tilt to show that it is traveling along the track rather than simply mixing the track while it sits on the ground. I think I also might play around more with the track itself and figuring out how to best represent it both through its varying width and in its fills.
Camdyn, your work is coming along so well! I'm so impressed by your concept and how you have executed it so far. I'm loving how the tracks are flowing through the mixer; it's really coming to life! The interaction of the mixer and the background is really successful. It would have such a different mood if the background and mixer weren't connected by the tracks. The only critique I wanted to mention is contrast. I think adding more contrast between your background and the mixer will really help emphasize the mixer. Your idea to play with the idea of lifting the mixer sounds really fun! I'm excited to see where this takes you- pun intended. :)

Hi Camdyn,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, wow. You mentioned that you have used Illustrator before and I can definitely tell by looking at your work because it's looking great. I really love the second version with the track being mixed in the bowl, the curves are very pleasing to the eye and contrast with the straight up-and-down of the city scape. Can't wait to see your progress!
